What is the assessment for?

The assessment is designed to gauge your level of expertise in all aspects at BTEC level 5.

The assessment is an opportunity for you to:

  1. -demonstrate your practical application of the essential techniques

  2. -demonstrate your safe working posture and client handling skills

It is also an opportunity for you to:

- demonstrate your functional musculoskeletal anatomy knowledge, which underpins any
   competent sports/remedial practitioner's treatment rationale.

The following modules are compulsory (unless your level of competence indicates that exemptions can be made):

- Functional Musculoskeletal Anatomy (Part 1): Palpation Skills

- Maximum Pressure, Minimum Strain: Safe and Effective Delivery of Deep Tissue Techniques

- Soft Tissue Release and Muscle Energy Technique (Part 1) and (Part 2)

- Joint Assessment

- Connective Tissue Massage and Positional Release Technique

- Medical Conditions

- Basic Postural Assessment

Having read this list, you can let us know where your strengths and weakness lie.

You may decide that you want to train in all areas, in which case you do not need an assessment and simply need to take all the modules.

The Bridging Programme is modular to allow experienced therapists to have a tailor-made programme focusing only on where your training needs to be enhanced.

If during your assessment you show an acceptable level of competency then exemptions will be made from this list.

You might, in theory, need only to complete the question papers and sit the final exams!

When can I take an assessment?

Assessments are available on Mondays and Fridays at the School office in Forest Hill

Individual assessments are 2 hours long (at maximum).

In some cases, students only require a quick assessment because they are up to speed, in other cases it the full 2 hours. Obviously we will not know until you start the assessment how much time we will take with you.

What does the assessment involve?

Throughout the assessment you will be guided through the elements on which we are required to assess you.

We will ask you to demonstrate your expertise in a clinically relevant fashion, for example, if you are going to demonstrate MET for hamstrings we would expect you to choose the the tighter muscle group to work on so that we can see your assessment skills as well as your execution of the technique to re-set muscle length.

Please do not hesitate to contact us by phone if you have any further questions.

We are here to help you!
